"In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer."
Iím a summer girl. Give me a hot sunny day and Iím happy. Every autumn when I have to put away the shorts and sandals I get sad. I struggle through winter, but there are some great reasons to appreciate winter. The cold weather that keeps you inside allows you time to do some things you would not do if you were outside. How about cleaning out your closet? I recently found a box of belts and they were from the late 80ís, remember those elastic belts with the big buckles? I also had a box with old swimsuits and goggles. What did I think I was going to do with old goggles and parts of goggles?
Winter is a great time to cook and try new recipes. This winter I am trying to learn about and how to cook fish. I know it is good for you; I just need to know how to make it. Next summer when Iím busy Iíll have a few more dinner time recipes available.
Winter is a great time to refuel creatively. When was the last time you took a field trip? Now is the time to nurture your artistic side. Make a point to go out and experience with your senses. A simple trip to Borders can stimulate many of your senses. You can smell the coffee, listen to a variety of music, and look at beautiful pictures. It costs nothing but time and winter gives you the space to do it. There is so much to see and feel; you just have to make the time.
Winter Solstice was December 22, 2006 and the Summer Solstice will take place 6/21/07. Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and longest night. We are gaining daylight each day as we move towards June. Tomorrow (2/10/07) our day will have 2 minutes and 12 seconds more light. Letís enjoy that soup, hot tea, candles, and scented body lotion while we have the time.
