“It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.” ~Charles Dickens
Change, it’s happening again. We’re in transition, cold one day, warm the next. Are you ready for spring? Do you have a kite in your trunk for that windy day coming up? Ready to move forward or are you still nestled in a cozy winter place? It’s time to stand up, stretch, and look around. Where do you want to go?
Today is a great day to decide what your spring will be like. Will you make a small shift or huge jump? Is there anything that you would like to start? Is there a place for change in your life? I was looking over my journal and read this entry from August 21, 2003: I do not know what I want to be when I grow up and time is running out. Odd, I feel that I am missing passionate work. Work that I love, that is creative, a reflection of me and yet I do not know how to go about finding this. It’s as if I have a song to sing yet cannot find where or how to make the music. So strange to reach this point in life where the choices have been made and there is so little flexibility—and I long to start over. Pursue a craft, delve into a creative endeavor-sink into it deeply and express myself. But with what, and how? I long to go to new places and live for a time, to submerge myself in new cultures. Geeze where did this come from? At times I look back and wish I had pursued and artistic endeavor. I am frustrated for a lack of a way to express myself creatively. I long for stimulating work that fascinates me. I realize that I “settled” for this life…
Have you settled? What dream have you set aside? This spring I challenge you to take one step towards the desire of your heart. Shake off winter, old habits, "why nots" and decide today to transition. Believe me I understand, you’re busy, you have commitments, you can’t squeeze your passion into your life. Here’s the secret: it’s private. It’s your change, and it can be very tiny; just a little bitty change, one step towards your bliss. Go ahead, change.
